Many of the Group’s members are actively involved in research into the history of Dorking and the surrounding Surrey Hills and outlying villages, such as the Holmwoods, Newdigate, Capel and Westcott.

Research is published in the Group’s annual journal, Dorking History, in book and pamphlet form, and is presented at members’ evenings and in displays for Dorking Museum and for Local History Symposia.

Anyone wishing to submit material for publication in the Group’s journal should submit it to the editor c/o Dorking Museum (see Contacts) or e mail to Jane le Cluse

We regret that we are unable to carry out detailed research on request, but the Committee is happy to accept queries relating to the area from researchers into family and local history, and to pass them on to members who might be able to help either with information or pointers in the direction of available sources. All queries should be addressed to Kathy Atherton.

Dorking Museum is open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am – 4pm.

If you want to make an appointment to visit the Archives, see information here.
